Recently I was lucky enough to join 7 other travel agents from Melbourne and Sydney on an educational trip to some of Colorado’s best ski resorts. Over the 11 days we stayed in some of the finest hotels and resorts in the region, visited 5 different ski fields and inspected 21 hotels and were able to get in a couple days of skiing as well.
Our trip started on a perfect bluebird day in Aspen where our instructors took us on a tour of the best skiing and boarding on the mountain before we were treated us to lunch at the very exclusive Aspen Ski Club – a definite highlight. We also enjoyed a 20 minute Snowcat ride up the mountain to dine at the cloud 9 restaurant. A very fun and unique experience.
Our next stop was Vail which has a very European feel with the style of the buildings and streets. It was also is one of the largest ski fields I have been to and probably my pick of the ski fields we visited. Again we were lucky to have 2 great days of skiing, a few hotel inspections and the odd spa treatment and massage.
Our final stop on the trip, Breckenridge was also my favourite town and I found the skiing much more relaxed and less daunting. A great place for the beginner or intermediate skier.
Colorado is a great part of the USA, and these towns are not just a winter only resort. The number of festivals and activities really makes this a year round destination.
I am more than happy to share my experiences with anyone who is interested in a ski holiday to Colorado, or anywhere else that might interest you.
